Your path to an academic career in Germany

Are you considering a career in academia or exploring opportunities in the German job market? Our Future Professors Week in Berlin provides tailored guidance and hands-on workshops to help you navigate the next steps of your career.

About the event

The Future Professors Week, will take place from Tuesday, October 14, to Friday, October 17 2025, in Berlin. It offers an intensive programme designed for international researchers, postdocs, and industry professionals with an academic background looking to transition (back) into academia in Germany.
Through hands-on workshops, networking sessions, and expert insights, this event will equip you with the knowledge and tools to successfully plan your career as a professor at a German university of applied sciences (UAS). Learn about the unique career pathways, the application process, and the research and teaching opportunities that set UAS apart from traditional universities.

Everything is covered

The programme comes at no cost to you, the expenses are fully covered by HTW Berlin (including flights, transfers, hotel, workshops and meals).

Who can apply

The programme is aimed towards academic professionals (regardless of age) who either finished their doctorate no more than 5 years ago, or have already started their doctoral project (i.e. completion within the next 3 – 5 years). The doctorate should be in a subject area that is included in the HTW Berlin curriculum.

Additionally, German language skills (A2/B1) and first professional experience outside higher education are beneficial.

The application deadline is June 30. We will begin reviewing submissions immediately and notify selected participants by July 7 at the latest.
